Our Duluth Campus inspired the next generation of healthcare professionals with their annual Mini Medical School on June 1. Students from local high schools took part in hands-on activities involving cell culture, anatomy and pathology, brain dissection and first aid. In March, Dr. Alon Herschhorn and his computational biology team, managed by Dr. Milind Misra, launched their publicly-available database, called HIResist, identifying strains of the human immunodeficiency virus type I (HIV-1) that are resistant to neutralizing antibodies. The project, funded by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA), has been five years in the making. READ MORE>>
A Medical School team led by Dr. Michael Garwood is developing a compact, portable magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scanner with Te Herenga Waka - Victoria University of Wellington, New Zealand. This international, multi-institutional project has received over $12 million in NIH (National Institutes of Health) support for this work. READ MORE>>
The MS Research Office has launched the Greater MN Clinical Research Initiative, which will expand access to a wide range of clinical trials to Minnesotans across the state. By creating collaborative partnerships with physicians, hospitals and clinics across the state, patients can participate in clinical trials locally instead of having to travel to Minneapolis. The Duluth Memory Keepers Medical Discovery Team was recently featured in a Duluth News Tribune article about their work making connections with Indigenous and rural communities to study the perceptions and caregiving approaches toward dementia.
