Office of Faculty Affairs Mentoring Training Workshop | May 31

Motivation is a key driver of engagement, persistence, satisfaction, and performance in the workplace and training environment. In this workshop, participants will learn about the core psychological needs that can sustain (or, if absent, diminish) a mentee’s motivation: Competence, Autonomy, Relatedness, Equity, and Structure (CARES). Through interactive exercises, participants will explore mentorship strategies for meeting these needs and encouraging mentees to recognize when their motivation is at risk. The workshop is primarily targeted to individuals who mentor early- or mid-career faculty. However, the principles have applicability for other mentoring relationships in academic medicine.
